In order to understand what an edit conflict is, consider the following situation:

  1. Alice clicks Edit this page on a page.
  2. Then Bob clicks Edit this page on this very same page and at this very time.
  3. Alice finishes editing and clicks Save page. The page is saved with Alice's version.
  4. Bob also finishes his edits and clicks Save page
Bob then gets an edit conflict page as a result of this coincidence.
