Depending on the project settings, a sysop can apply two types of import. They are both done with the page Special:Import:

  • Upload import:Lets you import a file in a special XML|XML format which is produced while exporting pages from another wiki.
  • Transwiki import, also called interwiki import: Lets you import pages directly from another wiki. The settings of the target wiki determine which parts of the source wikis are enabled after "Transfer pages into namespace". One can specify a target namespace. Choosing the option "all" actually means "the same as the original". .

To import wiki pages from your file, simply click browse and locate the file on your local file system.

Once the import process is done, one should see the new pages that were in the file. The wiki pages that have the same name as those in the file will be overwritten by the file content if the timestamp of the page that is in the file is newer.

If an error occurred during the import, possibly because of a badly formatted XML file, then you might find that the import was partially undertaken. Repeating the import process all over again should be no problem since the pages are overwritten.

If you included history information during export, you should also see information about the edits in the 'history' of the imported pages, and in the user contributions. The edits will not show up in 'recent changes'. This applies for both the time of the original edit and for the time of import.
